CAPT. KIRK
Captains log. Star date 2264.07.1
We are only a couple hours away from reaching our first
mission, an unexplored terrestrial planet labeled WBG-1a
within the Galactic habitable zone, life indicators are present,
but there are no tech signatures. We may find an exact duplicate
of Earth. I decided to enjoy a Symphony concert to pass the time
on the Holodeck until we get there.
CUT TO:
SPACE
DRAMATIC ORCHESTRAL MUSIC EXPLODES INTO ITS 1ST VERSE
MAIN TITLE over trillions of bright twinkling stars, then suddenly an incredible appearance
of the USS Enterprise SWOOSHING from a far distance at a small scale to filling the screen at
full scale, then gone in a TRAIL OF SUBLIGHT ILLUSION.
CUT TO:
INT. - HOLODECK/SYMPHONY HALL - CONTINUOUS
KIRK sits in the balcony above the stage, the featured pianist is in the middle of his solo part, and
fades out to a soft end to a verse into silence for a measured count, Kirk claps one clap while no one
else in the audience claps, but everyone turns, and give Kirk a dirty look, the pianist recovers from
the oddly rude interruption to regain composure, then comes back in on the next verse, Kirk
showing an expression of embarrassment realizing what he did gives others sitting around him
an apologetic look, everyone goes back to watching the pianist finish the solo, and the Orchestra
chimes back for a accompaniment finale. Standing ovation, and Kirk makes his way out.
CUT TO:
INT. - PIANIST DRESSING ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Kirk knocks on the open door, and lets himself in, the pianist just sitting on a sofa relaxing
smoking a cigarette.
KIRK
I am so so sorry for that, I don't usually go to these things,
in fact it was my first time, and probably my last...
Security alarm suddenly starts blaring throughout the Enterprise, and Kirk looks up at the
ceiling of the holodeck, and sees the warning lights breaking through the simulation.
KIRK
Computer, end program, and don't save.
The simulation fades away, and we see Kirk walk briskly exiting the door of the holodeck.
STEADI-CAM follows Kirk down the hallway, onto the turbo lift, ride to the main deck in 30 seconds,
the door opens to reveal the Operation Bridge, from Kirk's POV he sees the main crew at their stations
monitoring a strange continuing EVENT that started moments before Kirk got to the helm. Kirk
sits in the captain's chair.
CUT TO:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CLOSE ON Kirk's face.
KIRK
Computer, is there an immediate threat?
COMP
No Captain.
KIRK
Good, cancel the alarm. SPOCK, UHURA, assessments.
PULLBACK, then ANGLE ON Spock, and Uhura in frame. Spock anguishes in pain, and falls to
his knees, Kirk rushes to his aid, and waves off others.
KIRK
Spock, talk to me what's wrong?
SPOCK
Screams of trillions of beings in great pain. Now it's gone.
It was a warning, a brief moment of something larger shared
with me, it came from habitable zone planets.
KIRK
How many?
SPOCK
All of them.
Kirk helps Spock up.
KIRK
Computer, medical bay. BONES get to the bridge,
Spock needs a scan. Uhura?
UHURA
Captain we are now in low orbit of WBG-1a,
and we have been invited down to the surface to meet
them.
KIRK
This planet needs a regular name. What should we call it?
Bones enters.
BONES
It's Dr. McCoy, and how about always an inconvenient time.
KIRK
(smiling)
That's too long Bones, pick something else. Tend to Spock.
An invitation? There's no technology to send us that message.
How then?
Bones scans Spock with his tricorder.
SPOCK
How? Telepathically. There is life down there, and
these beings are so far ahead of us, they've surpassed the need for
physical technology. The screams I heard in my mind had some
clear words, and they are around a billion years more advanced than
us. We were also correct, this planet is Earth's twin, and the first to
form in the Milky Way with all the ingredients for life.
CONT.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ANGLE ON Bones.
BONES
What are you saying Spock, that in a billion years we are going
to evolve into disembodied god-like beings? By the way you're fine,
Vulcans are tough as nails, even you.
SPOCK
These beings do have bodies.
KIRK
We've got an invitation so let's go down. This is exactly the reason
why the five year mission plan was implemented, to explore
bold new worlds, to go where no one has gone before, and here we
are hitting the jack pot on our maiden voyage. Spock, Bones, and
SULU, we'll be exploring the surface of WBG-1a, maybe they have
a name for their planet, and be ready for anything.
SCOTTY enters the bridge.
SCOTTY
I came to see what all the fuss is about Captain.
KIRK
Perfect timing Scotty, I was about to call you, we're going
to beam down.
SCOTTY
That's all well, and good Captain, but we have a problem.
The planet has a significantly more powerful magnetic field
than earth, and we need to move to high orbit or further to avoid
interference with the teleporter.
KIRK
CHEKOV, you heard the man, take us out of orbit.
CHEKOV
Aye aye Captain.
CUT TO:
EXT. - SPACE-PLANETS ORBIT - CONTINUOUS
The USS Enterprise spacecraft moves out to settle further away from the planet.
PULL BACK wide to reveal thousands of CUBE shape spacecraft ARRIVING, and surrounding the
planet, and also the Enterprise.
CUT TO:
EXT. - PLANET SURFACE - DAY
Kirk, Spock, Bones, and Sulu appear into existence as the energy particles of the teleporter fades out,
they all pull out their phaser guns at the ready. They walk a few yards noticing their surroundings
are an exact representation of forests on Earth, and stop at the mouth of a cave at the base of a huge
hill. They are hailed by the Enterprise, and Kirk opens his communicator.
CONT.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PULL FOCUS, ANGLE ON Captain, and crew.
KIRK
Captain Kirk here.
UHURA
Captain, thousands of duplicate ships not in our data base
have us, and the planet surrounded. Acting Captain Chief
Engineer Scott for you sir.
SCOTTY
Captain, I tried to hail these things multiple times, and I already
took the liberty to put us on red alert with our entire array of photon
torpedoes and all phasers positioned to fire. I thought you wouldn't
mind sir.
KIRK
Good job Scotty, keep me updated over, and out.
SULU
Captain look!
They all stare in wonder, and amazement as the cave melts into nothing, and under the rough
rocky surface image a smooth pure white building with no windows is revealed. A forcefield
swipes open where the cave door once was, and GAIA, a giant illuminated humanoid being at least
ten feet tall WALKS out of the building like it was a dream, Its voice angelic, and ethereal with
a slight echo to it.
BONES
Oh my god, beautiful.
GAIA
Welcome friends. We do not go by names, but to make your
visit less confusing, I will call myself Gaia for We are the
mother of your earth. Long ago we were once like you, and
in time we became advanced enough to spread our genes to
other planets in the Galactic habitable zone. You are from us,
you are our children, and earth is the second to evolve into
intelligent life after our own, Our Kind is the first.
SPOCK
Gaia, how do you monitor the evolutionary progress of the
countless habitable planets?
GAIA
Come inside, and I will tell you more. The BORG will not
attempt to board you or destroy you while you are with us.
You all here, your ship, and everyone on it are safe from harm.
SULU
The what? The Borg? Captain, keep your guard up, and weapons hot,
we don't know enough yet.
KIRK
Spock, what do you think?
SPOCK
I agree with Sulu. Until I am able to mind meld with Gaia, only
then I will know without a doubt if these beings are who, and what
they claim.
BONES
Wow, we basically discovered our creators. Well Mom, lead
the way.
CUT TO:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INT. - ENTERPRISE BRIDGE - CONTINUOUS
Scotty is sitting at the helm in the Captain's chair, and the bridge crew mill about at various stations
monitoring panels of lights, and digital graphs. The main screen is on with the Cubes out in space
filling it up corner to corner. Scotty notices one of the Cubes release a probe, and it's headed straight for
the Enterprise.
SCOTTY
Hailing Captain Kirk, come in, come in, do you copy
over. Captain do you copy! I think they're are trying to...
Ah hell we're out of time. Forward Phasers ready. Fire!
We see from the bridge viewer screen the phasers hit the probe in a blinding explosion, and behind the
fading of sparking gas cloud are hundreds more just like the others heading right for the Enterprise.
SCOTTY
Fire at will! Fire at will!
Dozens of phaser fire shoot out at all directions picking off the probes a few at a time, and
multiple layers of ultra bright light coming off the high number of explosions fill the screen
to the point of whiting it out from view.
CUT TO:
INT. - GAIA'S BUILDING - CONTINUOUS
We see hundreds of floating holograms floating in mid-air changing into various shapes, and
mathematical equations blended in, always moving, always functioning at a low pleasant hum.
Kirk, Spock, Bones, Sulu, and Gaia, are sit floating around a forcefield round table also floating,
but perfectly stable.
KIRK
Tardigrades? Those practically indestructible little critters?
Well I be damned.
BONES
(smiling)
Water bears.
SPOCK
Fascinating. Trillions of microscopic screams of pain.
How did I pick up their telepathic signal?
GAIA
The water bears as you call them are linked to our planet
through a quantum channel similar to the photonic processes.
Einstein crudely termed it, spooky action at a distance.
SPOCK
The water bear are biological spy probes. That is genius.
Kirk pulls out his communicator.
KIRK
Scotty, get ready to beam us up, and we're bringing a guest.
Heads up, this Gaia is ten feet at least. (beat) Scotty, do you copy?
Scotty?! (beat) We seem to have lost contact.
